Keep it short
Festive clips work best short: most of the ideas above are 5–15 seconds. A loop that ends where it began gets watched twice. If the idea needs talking, keep it under 30 seconds and put the point in the first line.
Five things that make a festive clip look good
- Warm light. Turn off the ceiling light and use lamps or fairy lights. Put the light in front of you, not behind.
- A clean background. Move the laundry. A tree, a window or a plain wall is enough.
- Cut on the beat. Changes that land on the music feel intentional. Tap along once before you edit.
- Vertical, full screen. Film 9:16 and keep faces and text away from the bottom, where captions and buttons sit.
- Text on screen. Many people watch with the sound off. Four to six words are enough.
Music you are allowed to use
A popular Christmas song may be fine inside the platform's own sound library, but the same track added in another editor can get your video muted or blocked. The safest choice is the platform's library, or music you have the rights to use.
Plan the posts
- Early December: the advent calendar and tree-decorating ideas.
- Mid-December: outfits, cookies, wrapping.
- Christmas Eve and Day: family and pet clips, messages.
- December 31: the countdown and the new-year transition.
